Dated 1964

Mrs. Jessie Herzog, age 83, a well-known former resident of Covington, died at about midnight Sunday, June 28 at Phoenix, Ariz., where she had been making her home. She had been ill for six months and death was attributed to lung cancer. Mrs. Herzog was born in East St. Louis, Ill., Aug. 18, 1880, the daughter of Samuel V. and Anna Rabb Wells. She grew up in Wabash Township in Fountain County and was graduated from Covington High School. For many years she made her home in Billings, Mont., where she was married to Mr. Sande. She later returned to Covington and in 1950 was married to Marx Herzog, a retired Covington businessman. She took an active interest in community affairs and she was a member of the Covington Women's Club. Mrs. Herzog had a wonderful philosophy of life, living today to the fullest and thinking of tomorrow, never of yesteryears. In Phoenix, Mrs. Herzog made her home with a niece by marriage and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Pifer, 7229 North 12th Place, Phoenix 20. She is survived by a nephew who resides in Seattle, Wash., and two cousins, Miss Madeline Snoddy and Mrs. Helen Stevens, both of Covington. Funeral services were held this morning, July 1, at the Bethany Chapel in Phoenix. The body was to be cremated and the ashes will remain in Phoenix. Friends who wish to pay tribute to Mrs. Herzog are asked to make their contributions to the Maracopa County Cancer Society of Phoenix.  --typed by Walt W
